Refine Your Location on the MDAH GE Map

If the icon that represents your location is offset from the actual postion of your home in the map backdrop imagery, you can help us improve it in the MDAH GE map. There are several possible methods, but the following is an easy one.

  1. Open the MDAH map in Google Earth.
  2. From the Tools menu select Options and under the 3D View tab, set Show Lat/Long to Degrees.
    Tools > Options window
  3. Zoom to your location according to the current map. The easiest way to do this is to find your name in the Places list under the MDAH>members folder and double click the hyperlink with your name. Zoom the map in further so you can see the details of houses, including your actual home.
  4. From the Add menu, pick Placemark. This will place a flashing pushpin marker on your map (probably right on top of the existing icon for your house) and open a placemark properties window.
  5. Use the mouse to drag the new pushpin marker onto your actual house. Watch the Latitude and Longitude values update in the properties window as you drag the the new pushpin marker around on the map.

  6. When you are satisfied, copy and paste the latitude and longitude values into an email to ge_map@mdah.org with Subject: 'update_location.' Please include your full name and indicate that the latitude and longitude values are the accurate location of your home and that you want that updated in the next version of the MDAH map.
  7. Mash the Cancel button on the New Placemark window to avoid actually adding this Placemark to your map.
